Over the last several decades, the sport of fly fishing has evolved. New technologies in rod and reel manufacturing have created state of the art fishing tools. Fast shooting, ultra slick fly lines have given even the mediocre fly caster, the ability to gain several more feet of distance to their cast. The introduction of the "bobber" or as it is referred to in the fly fishing shops as a "strike indicator" into the tools of the trade for the river and stream fishermen, changed the world of fly fishing forever. The McKenzie style drift boat design has given us the ability to cover the river meticulously and cast to fish that have always been out of reach to fly fishermen. The capacity to fish directly from the boat is a massive advantage to fly fishermen. Czech nymphing is a form of fly fishing, which was designed and tailored in the countries of Eastern Europe. The principle is simple in design, but like any form of fly fishing, takes some time to perfect. The fly fishermen, uses a 3 or 4 weight, ten foot or slightly longer fly rod with plenty of tip action. Ultra fast action fly rods, which are the design of many US manufactures now, will not work properly. These rods have no feel or life in them and have taken away the ability of the fly fishermen to feel the natural drift of the fly, hence the use of the "strike indictor". Under a strict, short line cast where the head of the fly line is just outside of the tip of the rod, the caster drifts Czech Nymph style flies, which are impregnated with heavy tungsten beads and fished on a drag free line. Watching the tip of the line or the "sighter" tippet will determine when a fish has struck at the fly. This principle is conducted over and over again from the top of the fishing drift to the bottom. You control the depth of the flies by simply by raising and lowering the tip as the flies drift and bounce along the bottom of the sub straight. In the Americanized form of fly fishing the "bobber" controls and dictates the depth of your flies and acts as the visual tool to direct you when a fish as struck the fly. |

The WBFC Czech Nymphing 103 Fly Fishing Course, is the final class in the series. It is by far, our most complete of the three courses. Here, you will spend a full day with a qualified instructor on the Yakima River, learning two different Euro nymphing techniques. The first portion of the class, incorporates both the 101 and 102 class programs, where we cover all of the wading style Euro type fly fishing methods. The other portion of the class, will be the "new" Euro/Czech Nymphing methods that we are Americanizing at this time. The Czech Nymphing style of fly fishing that was created in Eastern Europe is based on the principles of wade fishing. The streams in this corner of the world, are small and intimate and are accessed on foot. The difference between Euro style fly fishing and Western United States Fly Fishing, is the ability to use and incorporate the "drift boat" into our means of operation. The majority of our western rivers are big, broad and usually have high volumes of water, the majority of the fishing season. This makes wade fishing extremely challenging, especially through the first portions of the year, when snow pack runoff is at it highest volumes. In 103, we will incorporate Czech/Euro Nymphing into our "drift boat" style of fly fishing and demonstrate the proper use of the drift boat, gear and flies. You will learn how to Euro nymph from the boat on a fixed position as well as a moving one and become efficient in this form of fly fishing. Unlike the 101 and 102 course, where two participants is required for a class session, the Czech Nymphing 103 course is available to a single fly fishermen as well. The maximum number of fly fishermen is two person to a boat. Below is an outline of what well be covered throughout the day. Feel free to contact WBFC with any questions you have. |
