WBFC FALL-WINTER FLY FISHING SPECIAL-2016

It's been an incredible autumn here in Central Washington and the fly fishing on our blue ribbon trout fishery, the Yakima River has not disappointed.

For those that love dry fly fishing (who doesn't?) we are still experiencing afternoon hatches of Blue Wing Olives, Mahogany Duns and Light Cahill's.  There are still good hatches of October Caddis as well, so on most days its a big bug-little bug scenario.  Sticking big fish on little dry flies is some of the finest moments you can experience during your fly fishing career.

With the extended forecast over the next ten days calling for warm, mild days in the upper 50 degree range or low 60's, we anticipate the river to continue to fish well.  The scenery is still spectacular with much of the foliage along the river still intact and dressed in vibrant colors of orange, red and green.  The river water tempertures are in the mid to high 50 degree range, which is absolutely perfect for high metbolism trout feeding and insect hatches.

WHAT TO EXPECT FOR THE REMAING DAYS OF 2016 ON THE UPPER YAKIMA?

It has been a very wet October, a record setting on here in the Kittitas Valley, however that hasn't slowed down the fishing any.  We did have a couple of hiccups, where the river took an usual spike in flows due to the excessive rain fall, however other then a couple of days down time, the trout fishing is excellent.....now!

We don't want the fly fishing season to end, however daylight savings time is upon us (Sunday, November 6th) Spring ahead, fall back.  With that said, it hard for us to squeeze in a full day of guided fishing.  We enjoy a slower pace of guiding and working to sets of specific fish, rather then trying to float more miles of river in a day's time.

It makes more sense to us as professionals to work shorter pieces of water and concentrate on the fishing, rather then the floating.  We also find that many anglers require adjustments in there technique.  Floating shorter pieces of water gives us the adequate time necessary to professionally instruct each individual client and insure that our guest improve there skill levels each time they fish with us.  After all, the sport of fly fishing requires proficiency.  This is what we love to teach here at WBFC.

We have adjusted our guide service rates to reflect the time change.  So you can take advantage of the excellent weather and fishing opportunities that are happening right now.  Unfortunately, we can predict what will happen in two weeks time.  We could see winter blow in at the drop of hat and dump a foot of snow along the banks of the river.  As of now that is not forecasted to happen, so take advantage of our excellent rates and join us for a day of fishing.

ONLINE PETITION-UPPER YAKIMA RIVER ACCESS

This spring, WBFC initiated an online petition open to the public to explore the possibilities and the public interest of increasing more access to the Upper Yakima.  We are especially interested in the section of river from the Diversion Dam in Thorp to Ellensburg.  This section of the Yakima at this time has "no public access" to both foot traffic or a boat launch put in or take out.  Approximately 15 miles of river has very limited access.

Increasing access to the river, any river is beneficial for all outdoor enthusiasts.  More and more we see public lands being purchased and closed to the public. (?)  Restricted access to "our" public lands is inexcusable. Increased access to area's of the Yakima is needed.  When miles of the river is limited, the public is forced to bottle neck into areas that are readily available.  These spots then receive more pressure and more traffic, which increases not only stress on the wildlife, but also stress on the land itself.  Spreading out the pressure decreases the amount of strain on the fish and the river as a whole.

We would appreicate your support in showing our local government officials the importance of more access to the Yakima.  Lets show them how the public outdoorsmen feel about limited access to our public waterways.  To sign the petition and comment, please visit the link below.
